Jeremiah, Lamentations, Obadiah, Nahum, and Habakkuk Now Available in Digital Formats

As we press forward into 2021, we are pleased to share a few updates.

What’s New

The Refreshed ASV Old Testament has been expanded to include the books of Jeremiah, Lamentations, Obadiah, Nahum, and Habakkuk. All of these are now available in the iterative RASV Old & New Testament PDF and ePub editions for desktops, laptops, phones, and tablets.

Proofreading updates have been made to Old and New Testaments editions based on the newly finalized New Testament & Psalms edition.

Three improvements have been made to the ePub editions for desktop, laptops, phones, and tablets:

  1. Chapter numerals have been modified to eliminate import crashes of the Apple Books app reported on iOS and iPadOS mobile devices.

  2. Performance improvements so the file opens, and navigates between books, more quickly

  3. Modified chapter links so they are easier to select with touch screens

What’s Next

The Interim Whole Bible print editions, comprised of text from both the Refreshed ASV and the ASV 1901, will receive the same updates for Jeremiah, Lamentations, Obadiah, Nahum, and Habakkuk.

New Testament & Psalms is Now Available in Custom-bound Buckram

We are pleased to announce the public availability of our first expansion of cover materials and binding options with the new custom-bound Buckram hardcovers for the Refreshed ASV New Testament & Psalms in both Standard and Large Print editions. Custom-bound volumes are handcrafted to meet the specific features requested.

Buckram is a poly-cotton book cloth material with heavy grain, and a washable surface, which makes it very durable. Buckram is the most common material used by professional libraries and is sometimes referred to as F-Grade or Roxite.

Cleat sewn binding has proven its worth to the bookbinding industry over several decades. The sewing process begins by making a series of angled saw cuts (each pair of cuts known as a cleat) three millimeters deep in the book block. Each cleat is then sewn individually by a needle working from side to side in the form of a figure 8 between each saw cut of the cleat. The thread passes through glue as it is sewing which helps to hold the pages in place until the main gluing process, which happens after the book is completely sewn. The spine is then completely glued, and the book is placed on its front edge so that gravity takes the glue to the bottom of the saw cuts, sealing in the thread. The benefit of this style of sewing is that it only takes in three millimeters of the spine & is flexible, which allows the book to open reasonably flat, while still providing a very strong spine.

New Testament & Psalms Updated for Retail Print Editions

In follow-up to our last blog post about the New Testament & Psalms PDF edition, the final text is now also available in Print and eBook editions available from worldwide Retailers, and the ePub edition available directly from RASV.org.

In most cases, retail Print editions are the least expensive to both produce and ship throughout the world because our worldwide distribution is located in strategically located facilities in the United States, Canada, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany, North Africa, Russia, India, and Australia. When Retail availability is located closer to you, the speed and cost of Print edition delivery can be reduced to its greatest extent.

For more information, please see the following editions:

So What’s Next?

We have much more in the pipeline, and are actively updating the enhanced Laminate Hardbacks with thinner paper stock which are available exclusively from RASV.org, and are proceeding to the new custom binding options which will also be available exclusively from RASV.org.

Print Editions Feature Matrix

To help you choose the edition to meet your needs and interests, a Feature Matrix is being prepared to highlight the comparisons between the various print editions. The comparisons will include details about cover materials, binding materials, paper stock, and optional features.

MILESTONE: New Testament & Psalms Proofreading Complete — PDF Edition is Now Available

RASV.org is pleased to announce the final stage of proofreading has been completed for the New Testament & Psalms. This is a momentous occasion for so many of us as it means the final version is now being released, in stages, starting with the PDF edition. Special thanks to Andrew, Bob, Daniel, David, Doug, Jay, Jeff, Mark, Missy, Stephen, and Tom.

There are several subsequent editions actively in work. We have released the eBook edition to our distributor so it can soon be available worldwide everywhere eBooks are sold.

In conjunction with this activity, we are preparing the final editions of the Laminate Hardcover editions in both Standard and Large Print for worldwide retail availability everywhere books are sold.

We will then proceed to the custom bound editions in a variety of hardcover and softcover materials described in previous blog posts.

Expanding Cover Materials and Binding Options

In follow-up to a previous post, we are are actively conducting evaluations of new cover options and a new binding option. These options are being prepared for availability alongside the finalized New Testament in Print. Examples of the new cover colors, endbands, and ribbons are included the new details.

If you would like to help prioritize a particular material, please see the Cover & Binding Options Survey. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to us at info@rasv.org.

Glossary of Publishing Terms

In an effort to assist our customers with understanding the publishing terms used to distinguish between enhanced cover and binding feature options we are considering, a new glossary of publishing terms has been assembled for your reference.

If there is a term not included, or additional information is needed, please feel free to send your comments and questions to info@rasv.org.

Cover & Binding Options Survey
